Today's dose of music history celebrates the fusion band Shakti.
5 July 1975: The fusion band Shakti recorded its first album, which was self-titled.
Shakti was formed by English guitarist John McLaughlin and the Indian musicians L. Shankar, Ramnad Raghavan, T. H. Vinayakaram and Zakir Hussain.
The band played acoustic fusion music which combined Indian music with elements of jazz.
